Central Point Students to Perform in Scotland
After a year of fundraising and rehearsing, eleven teenagers from Crater Renaissance Academy are about to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland. Under the direction of drama teacher Matthew Reynolds and local playwright and director Cil Stengel, the group has developed an original piece of theatre entitled “Spirit Soaring.” The show captures an honest take on teenage life in rural America; some scenes are funny, others serious. Sometimes staged like a Greek chorus, sometimes modern dance, the performance is constantly moving and changing styles. In the opening scene the actors introduce themselves and where they are from, giving some humorous and heartfelt appreciation for their hometown of Central Point.
There will be a gala celebration for the troupe on Saturday, July 31 at the Crater High School Performing Arts Center at 7:00 p.m. This will be a chance for the community to see the show and wish them well before their travels on August 3rd.
If you cannot make it to the event on July 31, there will be preview performances on July 23, 24 and 29th. All performances start at 7:00, with doors opening at 6:30. Admission will be “pay what you can,” and the proceeds will help to defray costs of the trip. Crater High School Performing Arts Center is located at 655 N. Third St, Central Point, OR 97502. Appropriate for ages 14 and up, “Spirit Soaring” lasts about an hour and there will be a brief question with the actors and directors after each performance. Contributions and donations are
welcome and more information is available on our Contact Page.
